Breast Lift Surgery Denver
Breast lift surgery, also called mastopexy, is a procedure to lift the breasts. A woman’s breasts often change over time, losing their youthful shape and firmness. These changes and loss of skin elasticity may result from weight fluctuations, pregnancy, breastfeeding, aging, or be heredity. A breast lift can rejuvenate your figure with a breast profile that is youthful and uplifted.
What is a Breast Lift?
Very similar to a breast reduction, breast lift surgery raises and firms the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to reshape and support the new breast contour. Sometimes the areola becomes enlarged over time, and a breast lift can reduce this as well. It is important to note that while similar to a breast reduction, a breast lift surgery does not significantly change the size of your breasts or round out the upper part of your breast. If you are interested in a fuller top part of your breast, we would recommend a breast augmentation procedure done in conjunction with a breast lift. The breast implant will give you that upper fullness, if that is what you desire. This combination breast surgery can be done at the same surgery and using the same incisions.
Who is a Good Candidate for Breast Lift?
- Women who are healthy and at a stable weight are good candidates for breast lift.
- If the breasts have a flatter, elongated shape or an “empty tube sock” appearance or are pendulous in nature.
- The nipple falls below the breast crease.
- The nipples point downward and/or you have stretched skin and enlarged areolar.
- One breast is lower than the other.
- Women who want the size, shape or symmetry of the breasts to be improved upon.
What is the Recovery Time for Breast Lift?
Most patients are able to resume light activities within a week to ten days following surgery. Breast lift is typically performed as an outpatient procedure where you can go home the same day. Dr. Tirre prefers that patients not do any strenuous exercise or activities for about eight weeks in order to allow the incisions to heal and the breasts to settle into their final position.
Some patients experience nipple sensitivity changes following breast surgery. This will typically resolve over the course of a few months.
What are the Incisions in Breast Lift?
The incisions for a breast lift are very similar to that of a breast reduction. They may be around the areolar, vertically down the center of the breast, and in the inframammary crease (breast crease). After Dr. Tirre reshapes and recontours your breasts, the remaining skin is tightened and the incisions are closed. There will be visible scars on the breast, but in most cases these scars will fade and significantly improve over time.
