Hearing a diagnosis of “cancer” is very difficult to accept. Understanding that treating your skin cancer may result in scars or disfigurement can also be troubling. Dr. Tirre understands your concerns and will guide you through the skin cancer treatment and explain the resulting effect on your health and appearance.

Your Dermatologist may recommend a Moh’s procedure to remove the basal cell carcinoma or the squamous cell carcinoma. Following this procedure, we are able to perform the plastic surgery skin cancer reconstruction using a variety of techniques based on the depth, size and location of the defect from the removal of the skin cancer.

  • A local skin flap is where skin is moved from an adjacent area without disconnecting the blood supply, and is placed over the defect to cover the wound.
  • A skin graft is where skin is removed from behind the ear, in the groin area, or another portion of the body to be placed over the defect.
  • A forehead flap or more extensive flap surgery may be required if the skin cancer is in a difficult location or the size or depth was large. We can discuss this and all the options available to you for your post Moh’s reconstruction.
